Scaddan, WA, Australia (2010)

Scaddan is a small town located 50km north of Esperance on the Coolgardie Esperance Highway towards Norseman. The district opened in 1910, when 1000-acre blocks of land were released to be cleared for farming.  Scaddan Pioneer Park Murals by Irene Osborne and Elaine Morcombe. The murals depict busy life in the small town of the early 1900’s including the Temperance Hotel (opposite the murals) still standing today though sadly derelict and in disrepair.

The smaller murals depict a sepia painting of an overloaded hay wagon with a storm looming; a sepia painting of the Scaddan railway siding and steam train and loading wheat bags onto the wagons; a sheep shearing scene; and full colour paintings of crop growing today with a modern Harvester and tractor etc working a ripe wheat crop.  Ref: http://www.arts2u.com/whats-new.html
