Ravensthope, WA, Australia (2010)

Ravensthorpe is 540 km south east of Perth, 40 km inland from the south coast of Western Australia.  BHP Biliton opened a nickel and cobalt mine and processing plant nearby in 2008 but closed it down in 2009 with the loss of 1500 jobs - a major threat to the old town.

Kuranda, QLD, Australia (2008)

Kuranda is a small town on the Atherton Tableland in Far North Queensland, 25 kilometres from Cairns. The surrounding rainforest has been home to the Djabugay people for over 10,000 years.
Kuranda receives thousands of tourists each week who arrive on the Kuranda Scenic Railway from Cairns, the Skyrail gondola cableway, or by coach on the Kuranda Range road.  Ref: Wikipedia

Leeman, WA, Australia, 2008

Leeman is a small fishing village found about 300 kilometres north of Perth. It boasts turquoise waters, white sandy beaches and offshore islands harbouring a great diversity of marine life.  The fishing fleet sails in search for the lucrative western rock lobster during the season from November to June.
