Meekatharra is an Aboriginal word meaning 'place of little water'. The town of Meekatharra (population ~1000) is in a mining, sheep and cattle district and a popular spot for gold prospecting and fossicking. It is the largest centre in the Murchison region in the mid-west of Western Australia.
