Normanton is a small cattle town in the northwest of the state of Queensland, Australia, just south of the Gulf of Carpentaria, on the Norman River. The town's population is 1,100, 60 per cent of whom are Indigenous Australians. The town is one terminus of the isolated Normanton - Croydon Railway, which was built during gold rush days in the 1890s. The Gulflander motor train operates once a week. Ref: Wikipedia

Scaddan, WA, Australia (2010)
Scaddan is a small town located 50km north of Esperance on the Coolgardie Esperance Highway towards Norseman. The district opened in 1910, when 1000-acre blocks of land were released to be cleared for farming. Scaddan Pioneer Park Murals by Irene Osborne and Elaine Morcombe. The murals depict busy life in the small town of the early 1900’s including the Temperance Hotel (opposite the murals) still standing today though sadly derelict and in disrepair.
The smaller murals depict a sepia painting of an overloaded hay wagon with a storm looming; a sepia painting of the Scaddan railway siding and steam train and loading wheat bags onto the wagons; a sheep shearing scene; and full colour paintings of crop growing today with a modern Harvester and tractor etc working a ripe wheat crop. Kurri Kurri, NSW, Australia (2008)
Kurri Kurri (Aboriginal for 'the very first') is a mural town inland from Newcastle on the NSW mid-coast. In 2003 the Kurri Kurri (and surrounding towns) 'Towns With Heart' group decided to undertake a ‘Mural Project' with the aim of getting more of the thousands of cars that pass through the towns to stop and see what area has to offer. Kurri Kurri now has over 40 murals showcasing the areas history, heritage and uniqueness.

Stockton, NSW, Australia (2008)
Stockton is a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, located 1 km (0.6 mi) across the Hunter River from Newcastle's central business district. It is the only suburb of Newcastle that lies north of the Hunter River. The mural features surviving miners of the Stockton Colliery Disaster of 1896; the Stockton Dinkum Girls, who raised funds for World War I; the school gardens of Stockton Public School in the early 1900s; and Callens’ boat yard. The mural was painted by mural designer and artist Holly McNamee and a number of different community members.

Mendooran, NSW, Australia (2008)
Mendooran (Pop: ~320) is a small country town approximately 350 km west of Sydney. Along the Castlereagh River, nestled amongst large gum trees, there is located a public rest area that has free cold water showers and toilet facilities. In the town can be found about 10 colourful murals reflecting scenes from local history and rural life. Murals were painted by former resident, Karin Duce. The great bullock scene on the pub corner depicts a dray packed sky high with wool bales, hauled by a team of bullocks. In early days, these teams would have travelled well over 100 km along dusty country roads to Mudgee - the closest connection to rail transport.

Cardwell, QLD, Australia (2010)
Cardwell is tropical coastal town in northeastern Queensland. It is located at the southern extremity of the Cassowary Coast. The elevated Cardwell Range and coastal escarpment topography intercepts favourable rainfall. Cardwell Range biodiversity is protected as Forestry Reserves, National Parks and Queensland World Heritage Wet Tropics. Bowen, QLD, Australia (2008)
Bowen is a mural town It is located on the north-east coast of Queensland, Australia. The twentieth parallel (20 degrees South) crosses the main street. Bowen is in the dry tropics. It enjoys a diversified and prosperous economy based on agriculture, fishing, tourism, and mining. Much of the movie 'Australia', directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, was filmed in Bowen. Ref: Wikipedia
The SS "Canberra"
Situated in George Street on the wall of Jochheim's Pie Shop. This 7700t ship, named after the recently announced Australian Capital city, was Howard Smith Company's answer to Adelaide Steamship and Australian Steam Navigation Co. for a share in the growing coastal trade. Built in Glasgow in 1913, Canberra was placed on the run from Melbourne to major ports along the coast to Cairns. In that year Canberra became known as the "Honeymoon" ship or today's equivalent of the "Love Boat". Very fond memories are held by those who sailed on her. It was commandeered by the Government in 1917 and 1941 for use as a troop ship. The ship was sold in 1947 and was eventually broken up in 1959.
